Five major advantages of rotary drilling rigs, do you all know?
Compared with traditional percussion or rotary drilling and mud circulation wall protection technology, rotary drilling rigs have many advantages in both technology and equipment.
1. Multi-purpose machine, realizing various drilling methods.
Abroad, the design of drilling rigs for large-scale pile holes and foundation construction makes full use of hydraulic transmission technology and adopts a modular combination design method. With the main unit unchanged, it achieves multi-purpose use to meet the adaptability of large-scale construction machinery to different construction methods. In China, equipment that uses short auger drills or drilling buckets for dry drilling or non-circulating slurry drilling to form pile holes is called a rotary drilling rig. In fact, it is a large-scale engineering drilling rig that adapts to different construction methods. In addition to rotary drilling, it can also perform casing or full-casing drilling, equipped with diaphragm wall grab construction for underground diaphragm walls, double-power head cutting pile wall construction, and long auger drilling (CFA method), truly achieving multi-purpose use.
2. Advanced equipment performance, high degree of automation, and low labor intensity.
Rotary drilling rigs are crawler-type, fully hydraulic, self-propelled drilling rigs, using a full set of hydraulic systems, and some are also equipped with advanced computer operating systems. To ensure the excellent performance of rotary drilling rigs, most rotary drilling rig manufacturers select components worldwide, such as Caterpillar (CAT) chassis from the United States, hydraulic systems from Germany, and electrical components from Japan. This can extend the overall lifespan of the rotary drilling rig, preventing damage to a single component from affecting its use. The rotary drilling rig integrates mechanics, electricity, and hydraulics, with a compact structure and flexible and convenient operation. It has a high degree of mechanization and automation, can move independently on the construction site, erect its own mast, and move and position holes quickly and conveniently. Using telescopic drill rods saves manpower and the time for connecting drill rods, reducing auxiliary time and increasing time utilization.
3. High drilling efficiency.
Rotary drilling rigs can be configured with different drill bits according to the geological conditions. In cohesive soil layers, long drill barrels can be used to accelerate the drilling speed; for layers with a high sand and gravel content, short drill barrels can be used, with slurry wall protection to control the drilling speed; for layers containing solitary stones, floating stones, and harder rock formations, long and short auger drills can be used for processing, loosening the soil before switching to a drill barrel to continue drilling. Compared with conventional drilling rigs, rotary drilling rigs have a large rotary torque and can automatically adjust according to the geological conditions. They have high drilling pressure and are easy to control. At the same time, because the rotary drilling drill bit directly extracts rock and soil from the hole, its drilling speed is very high. Generally, the drilling speed in soil and sand layers can reach 10 m/h, and in clay layers, it can reach 4-6 m/h, which is 3-5 times faster than ordinary rotary drilling, or even higher.
4. Good pile quality.
Rotary drilling causes minimal disturbance to the strata, resulting in a thin slurry wall, and the resulting borehole wall is rough, which helps increase the side friction resistance and ensures the design bearing capacity of the pile foundation. There is little sediment at the bottom of the hole, making it easy to clean the hole and improve the end bearing capacity of the pile.
5. Low environmental pollution.
Rotary drilling rigs use dry or non-circulating slurry drilling, and the amount of slurry used is only 1/10 to 1/20 of that used in positive and reverse circulation drilling. Therefore, the construction site is clean, and the pollution to the environment is small. At the same time, rotary drilling rigs have low vibration and noise.
